Lasting Power of Attorney Checking Service

We offer a checking service for Lasting Powers of Attorney (LPA) which have been prepared by members of the public themselves.

Why Should I Get My Lasting Power of Attorney Checked?

Believe it or not, between 65-70% of do-it-yourself applications are initially rejected by the Office of the Public Guardian. That’s two out of three applications that are rejected.

Bear in mind that each application costs you £82 and that applications fail for reasons that would easily be picked up by a professional.

The LPA application forms aren't rocket science but, to a layman, they're easily misunderstood and fairly complicated to complete.

How Does Our Process Work?

You can either post your LPA document to us or you can arrange a face-to-face meeting here at our office. I’m afraid we can’t offer home visits for this service.

However, we can act as a Certificate Provider: That 's the person who signs to confirm they’ve discussed the LPA with the donor, that the donor understands what they are doing and that nobody is forcing them to do it.

How Much Does the LPA Checking Service Cost?

We charge a flat fee for a prima-facie check that the LPA is ready for submission to the Office of the Public Guardian. If there is a problem or an error, we will advise what is wrong and what needs to be done to resolve it which, of course, would save you a second £82 application fee.

Alternatively, if you ask us to re-do the LPA application for you, we will discount the £20 fee against our normal preparation fee.

The cost options for our LPA Checking Service are shown in the following table, along with the options to prepare the application for you;
