In order to write your will, you need to consider what you want to happen to your possessions and wealth when you pass away. Who do you want to appoint to make sure your wishes are carried out? Who do you want to look after your children? Who do you want to look after any funds left for your children or other people until such time as you want them to have the money?
To help, we have provided a number of useful documents that will assist you to prepare for a will appointment with Heritage Will Writing. These articles explain what assets you can distribute in your will. You will also need to think about the jobs that your executors, trustees and guardians perform on your behalf and we will help you ensure you appoint the right people to the right jobs.
Please email us, call the Southampton office on 02380 879243 or the Portsmouth Office on 023 92 006 212 or complete our contact form and we will get back to you within 24 hours (Monday-Friday). We will then arrange to meet with you in the comfort of your own home and discuss your needs and take your instructions.
OUR FIRST MEETING
During our first meeting, we will discuss your estate and what you would like to happen to your affairs. We will discuss some of the options available to you and take your instructions. Following the meeting, we will write to you with drafts of your wills and a commentary to ensure you fully understand the terms of your will. If necessary, we will also produce a detailed report on your inheritance tax position and make recommendations as to how you might reduce this through your wills.
PREPARATION OF FINAL DOCUMENTS
Once you are happy with the draft wills and our recommendations, we will prepare the final documents for signing together with an explanation of how to correctly execute the signing of your wills. If you choose to organise the signing of the will yourself, we ask that you send us the signed wills so we can check that the documents have been correctly executed. Your wills will then be immediately returned to you once we are satisfied that the correct execution process has been followed.
SECURE STORAGE OF YOUR WILL
Once you have the final copy of your signed will, you will need to find a secure place to store it. This can be your bank or building society or somewhere with a fire-proof safe. If you do not have somewhere appropriate to store your will, Heritage Will Writing offers a storage facility for £30 per year per household. We will look after your will for you and supply certificates of safe storage to you and your executors, so that should something happen to you, they will know they are your executors and that we are storing your wills.
